Tackling the Literacy Crisis
Nearly half of our students are not reading on grade level. That is unacceptable, and it’s fixable! As a school board member I have been working hard to end the literacy crisis in Orange County.
Over the past four years, I’ve worked tirelessly to equip our teachers with proven, research-based tools. I have prioritized my discretionary funds to send educators in District 3 to world-class training with the Reed Charitable Foundation in the Science of Reading. After the training, teachers feel confident, prepared, and ready to help every student succeed.
This impact reaches beyond early grades. Even our middle school teachers are now helping older students become strong, capable readers.
Because when a student can read, they can achieve anything.

I am committed to raising expectations, closing academic gaps, and creating engaging, hands-on classrooms that spark a genuine love of learning. When we set the bar high and provide the right support, our students rise to meet it.
Strong leadership matters! I’ve seen firsthand how healthy learning environments drive excellence in both students and teachers. Raising the standard is a top priority, ensuring OCPS becomes the top choice for parents and families.

Families should feel confident and proud choosing their local public schools. Restoring that trust means setting clear, consistent standards, communicating openly with parents, and always putting students first in every decision we make.
I will champion a return to strong foundational instruction where students are building skills that last: beautiful penmanship, the ability to write clearly and creatively, strong foundational math skills, and a focus on deep, meaningful learning.
When we return to these basics, we restore confidence in our schools, setting students up for lifelong success.

Alicia Farrant is a courageous leader and mother of 5, who has lived a life of public service. Since 2022 she has served as the elected District 3 School Board Member for Orange County Public Schools, with a passion to protect children and restore trust in our public school system. She has championed a return to a foundational, common-sense education not only in Orange County but in the State of Florida. Her efforts have been recognized by local families, Local & State law makers, Governor Desantis, and many others.
She has stood courageously when the innocence of our children and youth was in jeopardy. She has fought hard to ensure every student has access to a high quality education, and has partnered with local groups who are tackling the national literacy crisis head on. She is the leader we need to fight for our children and communities.
As the Chair of the Orange County School Board, Alicia will continue to champion a classical, common sense education, advocate for Parental Rights, and foster a sense of unity among a culturally diverse community. She will continue to lead with integrity and a commitment to excellence. Alicia Farrant’s courageous leadership is what Orange County Public Schools will need for a thriving future.
